Pascagoula, Miss.-based shipyard VT Halter Marine agreed to pay a $144,545 civil fine for environmental violations including allowing sandblasting particles and paint to become airborne, according to the Associated Press.
The AP reports that Halter has pledged to use a sweeper, water truck and vacuum truck to reduce dust, and will fully curtain any sandblasting and painting until a building is completed to house those activities. The company agreed to complete the building, which is already under construciton, by June 30.
