On Dec. 27, President Trump signed into law the Fiscal Year 2021 Appropriations bill into law, which includes $20 million in funding for the federal Small Shipyard Grant Program.
This action also signals the start of the congressionally mandated timeline to apply for these grants. By next Monday, Jan. 11, two things are expected to happen:
- The U.S. Maritime Administration will issue the guidance for applying for this program.
- Based on Congressional language, grant rules will not change substantively from last year.
Bottom line: It is anticipated that the Small Shipyard Grant submission timeline will occur on or around Feb. 26. If you plan on applying for one of these grants this year, you are strongly encouraged to begin assembling your materials now, as the timeline is very short to apply for this grant.
