Northstar Marine, Clermont, N.J., announced it is constructing a new heavy lift twin-boom derrick barge, the Northstar 600, with delivery scheduled for the end of the third quarter of 2026.

The Northstar 600 is being built on an ABS-classed 65'x230' deck barge equipped with a self-elevating spud system and a four-point mooring spread. According to the company, the vessel’s twin-boom derrick configuration will provide lift capacity of up to 600 tons.

Northstar said the vessel’s open deck space opposite the derrick arrangement will allow operators to stage a crawler crane aboard for pre-rigging, load handling, and support operations. The company said the arrangement is intended to provide greater operational flexibility than more conventional single-crane platforms.

The barge is expected to support heavy lift, salvage, offshore support, and marine construction projects throughout the East Coast, operating in ports and waterways from Maine to Virginia. Northstar said the vessel will serve both private-sector customers and government agencies.

“This is the perfect addition to our company. We see strong demand across the heavy lift and salvage markets, and the NORTHSTAR 600 allows us to pursue work we could not compete for previously,” said Phil Risko, CEO of Northstar Marine.

The Northstar 600 will join the company’s existing fleet of offshore support vessels, tugboats, liftboats, barges, and salvage equipment operating along the East Coast.
