The Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium is marking its 10th anniversary with a new brand identity intended to reflect its growth from a regional initiative into an international organization supporting maritime and defense technology development.
Middletown, R.I.-based UTIC connects government agencies, companies, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations working on undersea technologies. The consortium said its collaborative programs have contributed to more than $1.5 billion in undersea technology activity over the past decade.
“Ten years ago, we set out to create an environment where collaboration could accelerate innovation. What we've built together over the past decade has exceeded those early aspirations,” said Molly Donohue Magee, UTIC’s chief executive officer. “Our members have demonstrated that when government, industry, academia, and nonprofit organizations work together, we can develop and deliver technologies that strengthen our national security and advance the future of the maritime economy. As we mark this milestone, our new brand reflects the innovative, collaborative organization we have become and our continued commitment to solving the challenges ahead.”
UTIC manages the U.S. Navy’s Other Transaction Authority consortium for undersea and maritime technology innovation in partnership with Advanced Technology International. The arrangement allows consortium members to work with the federal government through contracting mechanisms designed to move technology projects forward more quickly than traditional procurement processes.
During its first decade, UTIC also established an undersea technology collaboration database available to companies and organizations in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. The database is intended to support industry partnerships among the AUKUS countries and Canada.
Other initiatives include a thought-leadership series focused on information sharing, as well as scholarship and workforce development programs intended to expand the pool of undersea technology professionals.
