The Coast Guard has made changes to the organizational structure governing the merchant mariner credentialing program, part of an ongoing effort to streamline the process.
The latest change puts the Coast Guard Director of Standards in charge of all aspects of the program, including oversight of the National Maritime Center and the newly created Office of Merchant Mariner Credentialing. The new office is responsible for statutory, regulatory, and policy development related to the Coast Guard mariner credentialing program.
The changes are aimed at improving efficiency by providing better and more consistent customer service.
Rules related to the changes were announced in the July 6 Federal Register. Questions about the new structure can be emailed to the Office of Merchant Mariner Credentialing.
