The Coast Guard suspended its search for an Indian tanker crewman reported missing near Southwest Pass, Wednesday.
Missing is Ram Mohan Singh, 25.
Coast Guard crews searched for 44 hours in a search area of 1,179 sq. mi. approximately five miles south of Southwest Pass in an effort to locate Singh.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the 598' Rainbow Quest that Singh was missing after an 8 a.m. muster, Tuesday. The Hong Kong-flagged ship conducted sweeps of the vessel with negative results; no life jackets were reported missing. Singh was last seen Monday at 9 p.m. wearing an orange jump suit.
Sector New Orleans watchstanders dispatched two HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrews from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile in Mobile, Ala., four MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crews from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, two 45' Response Boat — Medium boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Venice, and a crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Pelican, an 87' patrol boat homeported in Abbeville.
The search is suspended pending further developments.
