The Mississippi River was closed above Hahnville, La., Tuesday afternoon after a collision between two towing vessels near mile marker 129 caused a barge to capsize.
The capsized barge was carrying caustic soda, the Coast Guard said, though there were no reports of the cargo spilling into the waterway or any injuries.
The Mississippi was closed between mile markers 126 and 131 as a result of the incident. Late Wednesday, the Coast Guard reopened the river to one-way traffic between mile markers 127 and 129 after the capsized barge was secured.
High-water restrictions and advisories for the Sector New Orleans Captain of the Port Zone are still in place.
The Coast Guard is investigating.
