Yanmar has acquired Boatswain’s Locker Inc., its West Coast marine distributor, in a move to expand dealer and service capabilities in the region.

Established in 1939, Boatswain’s Locker is the exclusive servicing distributor for Yanmar Marine International in California, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii. The company also distributes Vetus products, part of Yanmar’s Marine Recreational Business Unit.

Yanmar said Boatswain’s Locker will work with Mastry Engine Center to support the company’s U.S. customers. The acquisition is intended to strengthen coordination among product development, sales and aftersales support for boatbuilders, dealers and owners.

Robert Apted will remain president of Boatswain’s Locker under Yanmar’s ownership and oversee its integration into the company.

“We see this as a valuable opportunity and an important milestone for both YANMAR’s Recreational Marine Business and the Boatswain’s Locker team,” said Wouter-Jan van der Wurff, president and CEO of Yanmar’s Marine Recreational Business Unit. “It builds on our strong partnership, aligns with our strategic direction, and supports our shared ambitions for future growth.”

Yanmar said the combined organization will provide customers with faster support and closer access to technical specialists while expanding the region’s dealer and service capabilities.

Yanmar’s global service network includes more than 2,000 authorized dealers in over 130 countries. Its Marine Recreational Business Unit includes Vetus Maxwell, Flexofold and Smartgyro.
