The historic city hosts visitors both on land and on moorings in the city's waterways. Watermark Cruises operates a fleet of four water taxis to serve the needs of locals and tourists who'd rather not hassle with limited parking options.
The service operates from the harbor's hub at City Dock and takes regular runs to the docks in Eastport, where many of the favorite restaurants and watering holes are located. The operation also can pick up and deliver boaters to and from their vessels in the harbor.
"The taxi service times have changed little over the 30 years of taxi service in Annapolis,” said Debbie Gosselin, president of Watermark. “The busiest times are still Friday and Saturday evenings as people head across the harbor for dinner. After midnight, demand drops precipitously, so taxi service will end at midnight on Friday and Saturdays going forward.”
Since many visitors enjoy hopping on board taxis as a way to see the city from the water, Watermark also offers a narrated, 40-minute tour of the downtown Annapolis aboard the Miss Anne. "People use us just as they would an auto taxi," said Katie Redmiles, Watermark's marketing specialist.
A trip costs between $3 and $8, depending on the destination.
