EDITOR'S NOTE: The below is an email to the workforce from Vice Commandant Adm. Steven D. Poulin.

To Our Coast Guard Workforce,

On May 31, I had the honor and privilege of assuming the watch as the 33rd vice commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. I am truly humbled to serve all of you – active duty, reserve, civilian, auxiliary and family members. You are the heart of our service.

First, I want to congratulate our new commandant, Adm. Linda Fagan. Her bold vision for the Coast Guard is going to transform our service and drive us to become the Coast Guard America needs in the future. I am excited and energized to be part of this incredible leadership team.

Rapid changes in the world and our communities are creating new challenges and opportunities for the Coast Guard and every member of our workforce. As leaders, we are focused on those issues that will enhance workforce quality of life. Our service will be guided by our core values, history, and shared sense of belonging to achieve mission excellence.

If you haven’t already, I highly encourage you to read through the Commandant’s Intent. Together, we will demonstrate leadership and resilience at all levels, from our most junior members to our most seasoned. We will combat threats from transnational criminal organizations, counter nation states that seek to upturn the international order, protect people and ensure safety on the water, and protect our environment and national economy.

Thank you for all that you and your families do to protect our nation and serve our fellow citizens. I am proud to serve with you.

Semper Paratus!

Adm. Steve Poulin
Vice Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard
