Turn Services, New Orleans, La., has added the War Admiral, the second towboat completed in an eight-vessel construction program at Verret Shipyard, Plaquemine, La.
The 1,600-hp vessel follows the Sir Barton, the first boat delivered under the program. Six additional vessels remain under construction, though the companies did not provide a delivery schedule.
All eight boats will use the same twin-screw propulsion package supplied by Laborde Products. Each vessel is powered by two Mitsubishi S6R2-Y3 Tier 3 diesel engines rated at 803 hp at 1,400 rpm.
Turn Services — which operates fleeting, shifting, towing, cleaning, repair, and fuel-supply services along the Lower Mississippi River and Gulf Intracoastal Waterway — seeks to standardize the machinery across the series to give crews a common operating platform and simplify maintenance planning as the vessels enter the fleet.
“The goal is to build vessels that fit how we operate today while supporting the long-term needs of the fleet,” said Lucian Lott, chief operating officer at Turn Services. “As we move through this program, consistency across the vessels helps create a smoother transition for crews and provides a foundation we can build on for years to come.”
Laborde Products supplied the engines and provided technical and commissioning support during construction, working with Turn Services and Verret Shipyard on installation and startup.
“The S6R2 continues to be a strong fit for inland service applications,” said Bradley Matte, Gulf Coast Territory Sales Manager at Laborde Products. “For a multi-vessel program like this, having a proven platform across the fleet helps support both day-to-day operations and long-term maintenance planning.”
