Oceanbotics has unveiled the SRV-8 MDV (mine disposal vehicle), a remotely operated underwater vehicle, designed to detect and eliminate explosive mine threats swiftly and efficiently.
Equipped with ECS Special Projects’ Viper MDS technology for neutralizing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the SRV-8 MDV will enhance safety and operational efficiency for both commercial and naval EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) teams, Oceanbotics said.
The SRV-8 MDV features state-of-the-art imaging sonar that aids operators in identifying potential mine threats in the water, the company said. Upon locating a mine, the Viper MDS is deployed to secure a charge disruptor onto the device. To ensure maximum safety, the operator guides the ROV away from the mine while simultaneously deploying a spooled shock tube that remains tethered to the charge.
By remotely activating the charge through the shock tube, the SRV-8 MDV effectively neutralizes the mine threat without endangering divers or the ROV. Its user-friendly interface and adaptive software enable quick location and disposal of mine threats, streamlining the entire process.
