This week, President Biden signed HR 2471, the FY 2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act into law. The law funds all government operations through the end of this fiscal year and includes $20 million for the next round of Small Shipyard Grants.
As per the authorizing statute, the U.S. Maritime Administration (Marad) now is expected to issue a grant notice within 15 days, grant applications will be due around May 16, and awards should be announced around July 13. If you're looking for projects to apply for, they should be ones that would start no sooner than late July.
At the same time, Congress will now turn to the FY 2023 budget, and the Small Shipyard Grant Coalition is working with its champions in Congress to sustain and grow the Small Shipyard Grant Program. The group will alert you to opportunities to help promote and advocate for these future funds as well.
The Small Shipyard Grant Coalition will continue to update members with information as the grant notice is announced. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to the coalition with questions.
