Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.) was presented the Waterways Council Inc.'s 13th Annual Leadership Service Award during the council’s Washington meetings on Feb. 12. The council honored Whitfield for his strong and continued leadership on ports and inland waterways issues.

Most recently Whitfield served as a critical champion to introduce, with 31 bi-partisan co-sponsors, legislation known as Waterways are Vital for the Economy, Energy, Efficiency, and Environment Act of 2013 (WAVE 4, H.R. 1149), WCI says. As a result of the bi-partisan efforts of the co-sponsors, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act — now in House-Senate conference — incorporates most of the provisions of H.R. 1149, the organization says.
