The Panama City Port Authority has launched a search for a new executive director as Alex King prepares to step down from the position to pursue another opportunity.
The Florida port announced on Jan. 2 that King will depart the port authority in March to take a new position as chief operating officer with the Alabama Port Authority.
Port Panama City is both a landlord and an operating Gulf Coast seaport, administered by the Panama City Port Authority, a city agency. Its executive director and his staff are responsible for managing port planning, development, maintenance, marketing, lease negotiations, and compliance, among other duties.
A Port Panama City spokesperson told WorkBoat that the port authority's board of directors will begin a search for the port’s next executive director and will work closely with port staff to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of operations.
During his nearly 15-year tenure, the Port Panama City expanded cargo activity, advanced strategic initiatives, and strengthened its financial position, laying the foundation for long-term growth, the port said in a press release.
“We are deeply grateful to Alex for nearly 15 years of dedicated service, leadership, and commitment that strengthened Panama City Port Authority and the Northwest Florida community,” said Panama City Port Authority Board Chair Frank Hall. “While we will miss his leadership, the port remains strong, stable, and well positioned for continued success."
