In November 2013, Chevron's Jack/St. Malo floating production unit (FPU), the largest semisubmersible in the Gulf of Mexico, was towed from Ingleside, Texas, and moored 250 miles offshore in 7,000' of water. The FPU, with a design capacity of 170,000 bbls. of oil and 42.5 million cu. ft. of natural gas per day, will produce from two fields located over 25 miles apart and from reservoirs more than 26,000' deep. First oil achieved from Jack/St. Malo was in December 2014. Chevron's goal is 3.1 million bpd by 2017.
