Serco Inc. Herndon, Va., has been awarded a $97 million contract to continue support of the U.S. Navy’s Submarine High Data Rate (SubHDR) antenna systems. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) award was issued by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport.

The 10-year contract includes a five-year base period and five option years. A Serco press release said the company has supported the SubHDR program for more than two decades, providing depot-level repair, maintenance, and upgrade services.

Serco said the SubHDR system enables submarines to send and receive secure wideband communications, including voice, data, imagery, and video teleconferencing.

“We are proud to continue our 20-year partnership with the U.S. Navy on this vital program,” said Tom Watson, CEO of Serco Inc. “This award is a direct reflection of the exceptional skill and dedication of our team. Their expertise ensures that the Navy's submarine fleet maintains a critical communications advantage, and we are honored to be entrusted with that mission for the next decade.”

Work will be performed at Serco’s production and repair facility in Ludlow, Mass., and at NUWC in Newport, R.I. The company will also maintain its indoor near field and compact antenna test range at Ludlow as part of the contract.
