Master Boat Builders, Coden, Ala., has launched Titan, the second of eight harbor tugs under construction for New Orleans-based Maritime Partners.
The launch follows the recent completion of the first vessel, Marauder, in the series and marks another milestone in a multiyear newbuild program that will expand Maritime Partners' fleet of ship-assist and escort tugs.
"The launch of Titan reflects what can be accomplished through strong industry partnerships and a shared focus on quality," said Garrett Rice, president of Master Boat Builders. "Our skilled craftsmen and engineers take great pride in building vessels that meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety, and this project is a testament to their expertise. We look forward to continuing to grow and strengthen our relationship with the team at Maritime Partners."
Titan measures 88'x43'x16.5' and has a draft of 19.5'. The vessel is based on the Robert Allan Ltd. RApport 2700-MP design and is intended for ship-assist, escort, and towing operations. The tug delivers more than 90 metric tons of bollard pull.
The vessel is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516E main engines supplied by Thompson Marine. Each engine is rated at 3,500 hp at 1,800 rpm under Caterpillar's intermittent-duty "D" rating. Propulsion is provided through Steerprop azimuthing drives supplied by Karl Senner LLC, fitted with 3,000-mm fixed-pitch, four-bladed stainless-steel propellers.
A Markey Machine DEPCF-52 75-hp electric Class II hawser winch is installed, with the design allowing for the option of a Markey DESF-48A 100-hp electric Class III escort winch.
Ship service systems and control integration were provided by Beier Integrated Systems. The tug has a top speed of approximately 13 knots and accommodations for a crew of six.
Tank capacities include approximately 24,000 gals. of fuel, 2,000 gals. of fresh water, and 1,500 gals. of diesel exhaust fluid.
Titan is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping with A1 Escort Tug, Towing Vessel, AMS, UWILD, FFV1, BP, and LEV (US) notations. The vessel also complies with applicable U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter M requirements.
Master Boat Builders is scheduled to deliver six additional vessels under the program through 2027.
