Hornblower Group has expanded its operations on the Bridgeport, Conn., waterfront, growing its facility from approximately 1 acre to 17 acres and rebranding the site as Steelpointe Shipyard by Hornblower.

The yard is positioned as a full-service operation supporting commercial, government, and private vessels along the East Coast. The expansion builds on Hornblower Marine’s presence in Bridgeport since 2021 and reflects continued investment in yard capacity, workforce, and service offerings, the company said in a press release.

The upgraded facility includes 45,000 sq. ft. of indoor space, three marine travel lifts with capacity up to 700 tons, and a 220' service dock. The yard provides access to deepwater on Long Island Sound and supports a range of trades, including welding and fabrication, electrical, piping, mechanical, painting, and vessel outfitting.

Hornblower said the expanded yard will support new construction, scheduled maintenance, emergency repairs, and vessel overhauls, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. The company also noted increased capabilities in propulsion work, engineering, and project management.

“With this expansion in facility space and equipment, Steelpointe Shipyard will serve as a hub for maritime service across vessel classes,” said Shull Autin, chief maritime officer at Hornblower Group.

The yard’s services are organized into six divisions: construction, propulsion, management, consulting, services, and yachts, reflecting a broader push into recreational and yacht markets alongside Hornblower’s traditional commercial and passenger vessel operations.

Company officials said the expansion leverages Bridgeport’s location, workforce, and maritime infrastructure, while increasing Hornblower’s capacity to support operators across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
