In November, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced the designation of the Morro Bay Wind Energy Area (WEA) offshore central California and its plans to conduct an environmental review of the WEA.
BOEM also announced it is seeking public comments as part of its environmental review, which will be open until Jan. 11.
To facilitate public input, BOEM hosted a virtual meeting on Dec. 1, 2021. The second meeting will be held tomorrow, Jan. 5, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time.
The input received during the public meetings and throughout the comment period will be used to inform BOEM’s preparation of an Environmental Assessment (EA), as required under the National Environmental Policy Act, to consider potential impacts from site characterization (e.g., biological, archeological, geological, and geophysical surveys) and site assessment activities (e.g., installation of meteorological buoys) within the WEA.
Additional information on the meetings and details on how to comment can be found on the BOEM’s website at www.boem.gov/MorroBayEA.
