The crew of the Gulfport, Miss.-based Coast Guard cutter Razorbill won the Admiral's Cup trophy during the 2014 Patrol Boat Round-up held last week.
"The Patrol Boat Round-up brings these far-flung ships where they can learn from each other, perform critical training and maintenance for a reduced travel cost, and engage in friendly competition," said Capt. Joe Hester, chief of response, 8th Coast Guard District.
The 8th District has 18 patrol boats along the Gulf Coast making it one of the largest cutter fleets in the Coast Guard. The Razorbill's cook, Petty Officer 2nd Class Nathan Sikes, competed against three other Coast Guard cooks to win the Cajun Cook-off, which was judged by New Orleans-based chefs Frank Brigtsen and Susan Spicer.
"We're using this event to sharpen our skills and preserve our 'Always Ready' Coast Guard heritage, making each cutter better prepared to save lives and enforce maritime law," said Hester.
