Shipping and logistics services company, Crowley, Jacksonville, Fla., has placed its fourth Avance Class LNG-powered containership, Torogoz, into commercial service. On Aug. 12, the 557.6'x91.8' vessel departed Port Everglades, Fla., on its first voyage to Central America, marking the completion of the company’s four-ship Avance Class program.
The move takes place a month after the vessel’s sistership Tiscapa departed from the Port of Jacksonville for its first commercial voyage serving the Caribbean Basin on July 10.
The 1,400-TEU vessel, which includes capacity for 300 refrigerated containers, will transport apparel, fresh produce, food products, pharmaceuticals, and textiles between the U.S. and El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
Like its sister ships Tiscapa, Quetzal, and Copán, the Torogoz is powered by liquefied natural gas to reduce emissions while maintaining frequent, fast service between U.S. and Central American ports, Crowley said.
"Bringing Torogoz into service to complete the landmark introduction of our Avance Class fleet marks a major milestone in Crowley's commitment to bringing efficient logistics solutions to customers in Central America and the Caribbean Basin," said vice president Claudia Kattan-Jordan, Crowley Logistics for Central America, Panama and Mexico. "Because of Torogoz's capacity for diverse dry and refrigerated goods, Crowley can provide faster, high-capability service with reliability that is unmatched in the trade."
