Horizon Shipbuilding, Bayou La Batre, Ala., has delivered the seventh 140' towboat for Florida Marine Transporters (FMT). The vessel is named for Mandevillle, La.-based FMT’s long-time captain, Phillip Box.
The Capt. Phillip Box was launched in April at Horizon using its 600-MT TraveLift. The TraveLift is one of the largest on the Gulf Coast and allows for efficient launch of new vessels, as well as quick repair projects, according to Horizon.
FMT’s latest towboat, designed by Gilbert Associates, is 140'x42' with a 9'6" draft. For propulsion, the vessel has two Cat C-280 6-cylinder engines that put out a total of 5,400 hp. The Cats turn Sound propellers through Lufkin gearboxes. Two Cat C-9 generators provide ship’s service power. The steering system is from EMI. Fire suppression and detection systems were provided by Hiller Systems. Motor control centers and main switchboard were ordered through Mayer Electric. General alarms are from Gulf Coast Air & Hydraulics.
The interior package was from Kern Martin Services. The vessel comfortably accommodates a pilot, master, engineer and six crewmembers.
