Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Co. LLC, Quincy, Mass., announced it has been awarded a contract to perform maintenance dredging of the Arthur Kill Channel in the Port of New York and New Jersey.
"This $18.3 million project, scheduled to begin in late August, will involve the removal of approximately 110,000 cubic yards of material to ensure continued safe and efficient navigation in this critical waterway," the company said in a statement.
The work, which is part of the Arthur Kill 50' Reach Federal Navigation Project, is scheduled to conclude by Sept. 15.
The contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New York District. Cashman was one of five bidders for the project.
Dredged material will be placed at a suitable, contractor provided, state permitted upland placement sites, according to the Corps.
