The Pearlson Group has been selected to support development of JAG Marine Group’swire rope shiplift system in Wrangell, Alaska, the companies announced.

Under the agreement, the Pearlson Group will provide a full range of services, including private partnership development, project management and engineering support for the proposed facility.

The companies said the project will include a preliminary design phase focused on refining the shipyard layout, engineering concepts, infrastructure requirements and cost projections leading into the project’s next development stage.

The proposed shipyard is intended to significantly expand Alaska’s capacity for shipbuilding, vessel repair, fabrication and maintenance of larger commercial and government vessels. The planned facility is expected to support regional economic development while strengthening maritime infrastructure in Southeast Alaska.

JAG Marine Group said the Wrangell facility is intended to position the region as a future maritime service hub while supporting national security priorities and increasing U.S.-flag shipyard capacity.

Pearlson Group President and CEO William Pearlson said the company’s experience with ship lift systems and global shipyard development projects aligned with the goals of the Wrangell project.

JAG Marine Group founder and president Tim Jagielski said the project is aimed at creating a shipbuilding, fabrication and repair center capable of supporting both commercial and government customers in Alaska and the broader Pacific region.
