ABB has entered into an agreement to acquire Høglund, a Norway-based marine automation specialist, in a move aimed at expanding its automation offerings for the maritime sector.
The transaction was announced June 26 and will see Høglund integrated into ABB’s Marine & Ports division. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Headquartered in Tønsberg, Høglund employs more than 80 people across Norway, Poland, Romania, and China. The company, currently owned by Eitzen Group, reported revenue over $34 million in 2025.
Høglund specializes in integrated automation systems for marine applications. Its automation platform is built on ABB’s 800M and S800 control system hardware and is designed to support vessel monitoring, control, and automation functions.
The system collects and integrates operational data from onboard systems including engines, power generation, and cargo handling equipment to improve vessel efficiency, safety, and performance. According to the companies, the platform has been installed on more than 600 vessels.
ABB said the acquisition strengthens its marine automation capabilities across multiple vessel segments and enhances support for customers seeking more integrated control and monitoring systems.
“This is a significant new chapter for our people and technologies,” said Peter Morsbach, chief executive officer of Høglund. “Høglund’s story is one of dedication and passion for the marine industry, and we are proud of the expertise and experience we have cultivated and the solutions we have built.”
Morsbach noted that Høglund’s systems are already based on ABB technology, which he said should support a smooth integration.
Rune Braastad, president of ABB’s Marine & Ports division, said Høglund’s automation systems complement ABB’s existing marine portfolio.
“Høglund’s marine automation portfolio will complement ABB’s existing offering with proven and scalable solutions that support our growth ambitions,” Braastad said. “Combined with our global reach and service capabilities, we have a great foundation for continued success.”
