Tidewater Transportation and Terminals, Vancouver, Wash., on Tuesday announced the appointment of Coulston "Cole" Van Gundy as vice president of shipyard and terminal operations. Van Gundy joins the company with more than 19 years of experience in the maritime industry.

Before joining Tidewater, Van Gundy served as Vice President of Engineering at Crowley Maritime Corp. in Jacksonville, Fla., where he led the engineering services group, overseeing civil and marine design, engineering, and construction management for both internal and external clients.

Throughout his career, Van Gundy has managed the delivery of over 20 vessels and maritime assets, including tugs, tankers, barges, fireboats, and research vessels. Notable projects include Progress, the largest Jones Act-compliant liquefied natural gas bunker barge, and eWolf, the first all-electric harbor tug in the United States.

“Having worked closely with Cole in the past, I know the expertise, integrity, and energy he brings to his role,” said Johan Sperling, president and CEO of Tidewater. “His background in both vessel and shore operations, combined with his leadership in engineering innovation, will be invaluable as Tidewater continues to strengthen our operations and pursue opportunities in sustainable maritime solutions.”

Van Gundy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering and a U.S. Coast Guard license from California Maritime Academy, where he also earned a master’s degree in transportation and engineering management. He is a certified project management professional.

“I am excited to join Tidewater at this important time for the company and our industry,” Van Gundy said. “Tidewater has a proud legacy and a bright future, and I look forward to working alongside this talented team to advance our shipyard and terminal operations.”

Tidewater is a leading provider of barge transportation, terminal, and marine construction services on the Columbia-Snake River System.
