The Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to 23 undergraduate and graduate students pursuing STEM-related degrees tied to ocean, marine, and undersea technology fields.

According to UTIC, the recipients represent 15 colleges and universities across 11 states, including 12 graduate students and 11 undergraduate students. Areas of study include ocean engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, computer science, materials science, physics, and environmental science.

“UTIC is proud to support these outstanding students as they prepare to become the next generation of undersea tech professionals,” UTIC CEO Molly Donohue Magee said in a statement. “As undersea systems become increasingly advanced and autonomy becomes more important, developing a strong pipeline of talent with expertise in engineering, robotics, sensing, materials, and intelligent systems is critical.”

Several recipients have already completed internships or research work with UTIC member companies and organizations, including the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Naval Surface Warfare Center, SAIC, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Raytheon, General Dynamics Electric Boat, General Dynamics Mission Systems, and BAE Systems.

UTIC launched the scholarship program in 2023 as part of its workforce development and education efforts supporting the undersea technology sector.
