As a result of a March 9 collision between the 600' chemical tanker Carla Maersk and the 623' bulk carrier Conti Peridot at Morgan’s Point in the Houston Ship Channel, the Carla Maersk incurred significant damage. Responders applied high-density foam to suppress flammable vapors and worked to cover tank breaches and began removing methyl tertiary butyl ether from the damaged tanks March 11.
