Turn Services, a Convent, La.-based provider of barge fleeting, shifting, and towing services on the Lower Mississippi River and Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, has completed its acquisition of St. John Fleeting and its affiliate companies.

With the acquisition, Turn Services gained a fleeting location near Mile 141 on the Lower Mississippi River near Reserve, La., that can accommodate up to 300 barges, including dry cargo, tank, deck, and oversized barges. The additional barge fleeting capacity complements Turn Services' other locations on the Mississippi River in the greater New Orleans area, on the GIWW in eastern New Orleans, on the Houston Ship Channel in La Porte, Texas, and on the Sabine-Neches Waterway and GIWW in Port Arthur, Texas.

"This acquisition represents another important investment in the long-term growth of Turn Services and in the customers and industries we serve," said Gary Poirrier, chairman of Turn Services. "St. John Fleeting has built an outstanding operation and a trusted reputation over five decades on the Mississippi River. We are proud to carry that legacy forward while bringing these assets and experienced team members into Turn Services and strengthening our ability to serve our customers."

Founded in 1990, Turn Services offers barge cleaning, repair, and vessel operations from Baton Rouge, La., to the mouth of the Mississippi and towing services all along the GIWW.

"Adding this fleet into Turn Services' operations strengthens our ability to serve customers at a critical location on the Lower Mississippi River," said Todd Fuller, president of Turn Services. "The acquisition expands our fleeting operations in the Reserve area and allows us to augment our cargo handling capacity within the Port of South Louisiana jurisdiction.

"We look forward to building on the strong foundation established by St. John Fleeting," Fuller added, "while continuing to deliver the level of safety, reliability, and service our customers expect."

The acquisition was first announced in November of last year.
