Synagro Technologies, Baltimore, Md., has recently taken delivery of an IMS Dredge 7012 HP Versi-Dredge for a multi-year material-removal project at a decommissioned quarry site in Ohio.
"We are dredging water treatment residuals from a former stone quarry through a dewatering facility to produce a product that is 100% beneficially used through agricultural land application, soil blending and disturbed land reclamation," a Synagro spokesperson told WorkBoat.
The 7012 HP Versi-Dredge is equipped with IMS’s Dredging GPS System and uses food-grade hydraulic oil to meet environmental requirements at the site. The dredge’s submersible GIW 12”x10” hi-chrome pump is moving material roughly 3,900’ to Synagro’s dewatering facility with a static head of about 83’, the company said.
IMS designed the 7012 HP around its patented self-propulsion system, eliminating the need for shore-based or submerged anchors. Ellicott noted that capability is central to operations at the Ohio quarry, where steep high walls and narrow access points limit the use of support vessels or anchor spreads.
The dredge can reach a maximum excavation depth of 30’. and is configured for single-truck transport when fully assembled, reducing logistical steps for mobilization. It can also be launched with a single crane.
The addition of the new dredge puts Synagro's fleet at 19 vessels.
