Firefighters responded to the Hy-Line Cruises ferry dock on Ocean Street in Hyannis, Mass., at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, after a fire broke out aboard the high-speed ferry Grey Lady IV, owned and operated by the cruise company.

According to fire officials, the fire occurred on the vessel’s upper deck and is believed to have been caused by an overheated HVAC motor. Crewmembers were able to bring the fire under control before the vessel docked, and all passengers were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported, according to

The 151' x 34' high-speed aluminum catamaran was built by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Somerset, Mass., and delivered in 2016.

The incident marks the second reported fire aboard Grey Lady IV in just over a month. On Dec. 4, a small fire was reported aboard the same vessel at approximately 11:30 a.m. In that incident, crewmembers also extinguished a fire involving an HVAC motor, after which the vessel docked and passengers disembarked without injury.

The exact cause of the most recent fire remains under investigation.
