Seastreak will operate direct summer weekend ferry service from Lower Manhattan to Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., offering a swifter ride between New York and the northern Jersey Shore than highway and rail.

“This is one service that we've wanted to provide for quite some time,” Seastreak president James D. Barker said in announcing the new route to commence June 19.

“Getting from Manhattan to the Jersey Shore in about an hour and fifteen minutes changes the equation entirely,” said Barker. “This is a direct trip from Lower Manhattan to the Shore with no stops, and there really isn't another option that matches it in terms of simplicity and travel time.”

Long known for its regular high-speed ferry commuter routes between New Jersey and the city, Seastreak partnered with Point Pleasant Beach businesses and Chamber of Commerce to plan the service from New York City directly to Point Pleasant Beach, just inside Manasquan Inlet to within walking distance of taxis, the beach, restaurants and accommodations.

Departing from the Battery Maritime Building, the new route will take passengers directly to Point Pleasant Beach in approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. The service is designed with weekend travelers in mind, with departures from Manhattan and return service from Point Pleasant on Sunday afternoons.

As planned the service will operate from June 19 through Aug. 9 on Fridays and Sundays, and again on Labor Day weekend Sept. 4 though Sept. 7.

The ferry will depart Lower Manhattan at the Battery at 11:30 a.m. and arrive at Point Pleasant Beach 12:45 p.m. Return trips will depart Point Pleasant Fridays at 1 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 p.m.

In addition to its mainstay commuter routes, Seastreak operates seasonal and leisure service including trips to New York Yankees games, Hudson River fall foliage cruises, and summer excursions. The company also operates ferry service from New Bedford, Massachusetts to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, along with service between Providence and Newport, R.I.

The Point Pleasant Beach summer service will dock at Captain Bill's Landing the Fishermen’s Dock Cooperative commercial fishing dock and recreational party and charter boats.

"We appreciate Bill Cleary and the team at Captain Bill's Landing for making this work on the ground in Point Pleasant Beach,” Barker said. “It is a great arrival point, and Red's Lobster Pot (restaurant) is as good a first stop as you can ask for. We also want to thank Carol Vaccaro and the Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce for helping move this forward. This took coordination and local support, and we are grateful for it.”

“There is real opportunity to expand and create more direct connections between New York City and the Jersey Shore, and this is a strong first step in that direction.”

It’s the latest expansion for Seastreak, which has brought a series of high-speed ferries to the New Jersey regional market, building on population growth and a booming Jersey Shore housing market that followed the upheavals of hurricane Sandy in 2012 and the Covid pandemic.
