Ocean Power Technologies, Monroe Township, N.J., has received an approximately $1.5 million purchase order from the United States Coast Guard to install and deploy operational buoy systems previously ordered by the service.
The company said the award completes the acquisition cycle for the systems and clears the way for near-term fielding in support of Department of Homeland Security maritime security missions.
Under the scope of work, OPT will carry out deployment, commissioning and operational activation of the buoy systems to ensure they are fully integrated and mission ready. The buoys are expected to enter active service shortly after installation.
OPT said the order is expected to contribute to near-term revenue as installation and deployment activities begin.
The systems are designed to provide persistent offshore presence to enhance surveillance, situational awareness and operational effectiveness in demanding maritime environments. The company’s role spans manufacturing through installation and in-field support.
Jason Weed, OPT’s senior vice president of commercial sales, said the company’s increased focus on defense and security markets has strengthened engagement with federal customers.
“OPT's expanding focus on defense and security has enabled us to engage more deeply with our customers, gain a clearer understanding of their evolving mission challenges, and deliver innovative solutions that were previously unavailable,” Weed said in a statement.
“This strategic emphasis is directly aligned with the updated doctrine of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Defense to further strengthen Homeland Defense.”
OPT said the order supports Coast Guard and DHS objectives while positioning the company for additional work tied to maritime security and offshore monitoring applications.
