The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has called an investigative panel into a March 10 fatality aboard a Nabors Drilling platform rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

Roy Miller, an employee of the Bermuda-based Nabors, was killed during maintenance activities for Whistler Energy LLC, Houston, the BSEE said.

The fatality occurred on Whistler’s Green Canyon Block 18 leasing position, approximately 150 miles south of New Orleans. Drilling operations were temporarily suspended last week following the incident.

"My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of Roy Miller," BSEE Director Brian Salerno said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We are committed to determining the direct and indirect causes of this incident."

BSEE Gulf of Mexico Region Director Lars Herbst has established a four-member investigative panel to look into the death. The panel comprises a a BSEE special investigator, an investigator, a well operations inspector, and an engineer.
