Australia-based AML3D Limited has received an order valued at approximately $4.5 million for two custom ARCEMY® metal 3D printing systems from Newport News Shipbuilding. According to AML3D, the new systems are expected to be installed and operational by the second quarter of 2026.

AML3D said the customized systems are based on the company’s large-scale ARCEMY® X platform, incorporating a 10,886-kg positioner for heavy build capacity. The two new machines mark the ninth and tenth ARCEMY® systems deployed in support of the U.S. Navy’s maritime industrial base, and the second and third designed for heavy-capacity manufacturing, AML3D said.

The shipyard is integrating AML3D’s additive manufacturing technology to reduce lead times and waste while providing an alternative to conventional production methods, the company said. The company says its wire-arc-based systems can produce marine components that meet or exceed traditional manufacturing standards while reducing environmental impact.

AML3D CEO Sean Ebert said,“These custom large-capacity ARCEMY® X systems are similar in scale to the ARCEMY® X we recently brought online for another U.S. defense shipbuilding prime contractor. It is pleasing to see demand for our technology across the U.S. and other globally significant defense markets continuing to accelerate.”

Ebert added that AML3D is also broadening its reach into non-defense sectors. The company said it recently delivered a large-scale ARCEMY® X unit to the Tennessee Valley Authority.
