Ultra Maritime, Braintree, Mass., has been awarded a U.S. Navy development contract for the next-generation Acoustic Device Countermeasure (ADC) MK6, a system designed to counter increasingly advanced torpedo threats in the undersea battlespace.

The contract calls for development of technology intended to address evolving adversary torpedoes that are more maneuverable, capable of re-acquiring targets and designed to defeat legacy decoy systems.

According to the company, the ADC MK6 is engineered for rapid deployment and high-speed response, generating tailored acoustic signatures to divert and confuse incoming torpedoes. The system is designed to provide improved acoustic output and compatibility with existing fleet platforms.

Ultra Maritime said the program builds on prior independent investment in next-generation countermeasure technologies. The company has supplied acoustic countermeasures, sonobuoys and sonar systems to allied navies for decades.

The development effort reflects the Navy’s focus on maintaining undersea survivability as torpedo technology advances. Modern torpedoes are increasingly equipped with enhanced processing capabilities and adaptive homing functions, requiring countermeasures that can respond dynamically in high-threat environments.

Ultra Maritime’s ADC MK6 is intended to provide a deployable defensive layer to protect surface ships and submarines operating in contested waters.
