Moran Towing has announced the completion of its acquisition and integration of New Orleans-based Bisso Towboat Co. Headquartered in New Canaan, Conn., Moran announced the acquisition of Bisso Towboat last October.
Moran has had operations on the Lower Mississippi River in New Orleans since 2006. Through its acquisition of Bisso Towboat, Moran has now added 11 tractor tugs to its fleet, all averaging just 12 years old with a combined horsepower of 51,056. Besides the tractor tugs, 78 Bisso Towboat employees, including 61 mariners and 17 shoreside staff members, are now part of the Moran family.
Legacy Capital LLC and Phelps Dunbar LLP represented Bisso Towboat in the transaction.
“The completion of this integration is a significant milestone for Moran, and one that reflects the tireless effort and professionalism of both organizations,” said Ted Tregurtha, president and CEO of Moran Towing. “Bisso’s people and their commitment to excellence made this a seamless transition, and we are proud to welcome them to the Moran team as we continue to strengthen our presence on the Lower Mississippi River.”
The integration of the two companies was effective July 1.
Commenting on the acquisition, Scott Slatten, strategic advisor to Moran Towing, emphasized Bisso Towboat’s history that dates to 1890.
“The strength of this combined organization goes beyond fleet size or geographic reach,” Slatten said. “It is rooted in the talent, experience, and shared values of the people who make it run every day. Together, we are exceptionally well positioned to meet the evolving demands of our customers well into the future. We are proud of what Bisso built over 135 years and confident that this legacy will carry forward under the Moran name.
According to the announcement from Moran Towing, Bisso Towboat customers will experience no disruption in service, schedules, or contracts, with the same vessels and crews remaining in place. Bisso Towboat’s headquarters in New Orleans will remain as an active Moran base of operations. The former Bisso Towboat fleet and operations join Moran’s network that stretches across 17 ports and seven LNG terminals on the East Coast and Gulf Coast.
Founded in 1860, Moran Towing, besides its maritime services, offers environmental and industrial, commercial diving, and marine construction services.
