Mercury Marine, Fond du Lac, Wis., announced on Tuesday that it has introduced two new additions to its Verado outboard engine lineup: a 425-hp V10 model and an upgraded version of its existing 350-hp V10 engine.

The company, a division of Brunswick Corp., Mettawa, Ill., said the new 425-hp Verado delivers stronger acceleration and better fuel efficiency compared to some higher-horsepower competitors, while weighing less. According to Mercury’s internal testing, the new engine is 254 lbs. lighter and three seconds faster from 0 to 30 mph than a competing 450-hp outboard on a 26' center-console boat under heavy load.

Mercury also said the 425-hp engine produces 22% less noise at cruising speed and features a 150-amp alternator, which the company described as the highest output in its class.

The updated 350-hp model, also built on the V10 platform, includes performance improvements over both Mercury’s previous version and a competing 350-hp engine, the manufacturer said. Mercury reported faster acceleration, improved top-end speed, and quieter cruising, based on its own test data.

John Buelow, president of Mercury Marine, said the new models were developed in response to customer demand for more performance without sacrificing the smooth and quiet ride associated with the Verado line.

Both outboards feature a 26" center-to-center mounting design, which Mercury said makes them well-suited for repowering boats equipped with earlier Verado models or competitive outboards. Standard features include digital throttle and shift controls, with optional joystick piloting for enhanced maneuverability.

The new engines are now available through Mercury dealers and authorized repower centers.
