Marine Group Boat Works has delivered a new aluminum range support vessel to the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division for use at the Point Mugu Sea Range in Southern California.
Built at the company’s Chula Vista, Calif., shipyard, the vessel will support offshore weapons testing and evaluation operations. Its missions will include deploying and recovering specialized surface and aerial targets.
The vessel features a large open aft deck and a heavy-duty hydraulic crane for target handling. Marine Group Boat Works said it completed construction and testing before delivering the vessel to the Navy.
“Delivering this vessel demonstrates Marine Group’s ability to design, build, and deliver highly specialized maritime assets that support critical Navy operations,” Todd Roberts, CEO of Marine Group Boat Works, said in a statement. “This project reflects the dedication of our skilled workforce, the strength of our shipbuilding capabilities, and our commitment to providing the U.S. military with mission-ready platforms.”
The vessel was built to commercial American Bureau of Shipping class standards and passed required Coast Guard inspections during construction and testing, according to the shipyard.
