Containership operator A.P. Moller – Maersk has signed an agreement with Inmarsat Maritime to upgrade satellite communications across its global fleet of approximately 340 container ships. The bandwidth enhancements will be rolled out between 2025 and 2026.

An Inmarsat statement noted the upgrades are part of Maersk’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity across its fleet, turning its vessels into "floating offices." This initiative aims to improve operational efficiency through expanded digitalization and cloud-based solutions while also enhancing crew connectivity and welfare. Maersk noted the improvements align with the company’s "One SatCom" project, which aims to transform all its vessels into fully connected workplaces by 2027.

The new satellite service will integrate Ka-band and L-band networks, intending to ensure secure, reliable, and continuous global connectivity. Inmarsat noted the enhancements will support increased automation in operations and provide a more stable working environment for crews.
