Logistic Services Inc. (LSI) has acquired substantially all the assets of Five Rivers Distribution LLC, strengthening LSI’s inland waterways operations and expanding the company’s presence on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System (MKARNS).

The MKARNS provides commercial navigation from the Tulsa Port of Catoosa in Oklahoma to where the White River meets the Mississippi River at Montgomery Point Lock and Dam near Watson, Ark.

Five Rivers operates two multimodal terminals at the ports of Van Buren and Fort Smith, Ark. The terminals, which offer barge, rail, and truck connectivity, handle a mixture of agricultural, industrial, and bulk cargoes. LSI operates five intermodal bulk and breakbulk terminals in Arkansas and Mississippi, which offer barge, rail, storage, packaging, and logistics services for a wide range of cargoes.

With the acquisition, Five Rivers’ terminal, operations, and staff will be integrated into LSI.

“Five Rivers is an outstanding inland river operator with strong assets, deep customer relationships, and a proven track record of safe, efficient operations,” said Meghan Weinman, president of the Conventional division of Carrix, the parent company of LSI. “This acquisition aligns with LSI’s strategy to grow its inland rivers network, expand customer solutions, and invest in assets that support long-term, sustainable growth.”

Marty Shell, owner of Five Rivers, said he expects the next chapter of the company to be a successful one.

“We are proud of the business we’ve built at Five Rivers and are excited about what comes next as part of LSI,’ Shell said. “LSI shares our commitment to customers, employees, and the communities we serve. Joining LSI positions the business to continue growing while maintaining the operational focus and relationships that have defined Five Rivers for decades.”
