HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division has received a $56 million U.S. Navy contract for shipbuilding engineering and design work supporting the Australia, United Kingdom and United States (AUKUS) partnership.
The contract includes an option that, if exercised, would increase its total value to $91 million, HII announced Oct. 13.
Under the contract’s Foreign Military Sales requirements, Newport News Shipbuilding will provide technology insertion, engineering, supply chain and workforce development support, along with digital transformation services, for the United Kingdom and Australia.
The award also includes the United States Industry Support effort, under which the shipyard’s engineers and designers will support development of SSN-AUKUS, the nuclear-powered submarine to be built by the United Kingdom and Australia.
“Our longstanding nuclear experience at NNS directly benefits the AUKUS mission to support shared security objectives,” said Bryan Caccavale, Newport News Shipbuilding’s vice president of program management. “We are honored to leverage that experience and contribute even more to the AUKUS partnership.”
The award adds to HII’s work supporting submarine supplier qualification, workforce training and nuclear program development in Australia.
The company’s Mission Technologies division in Australia holds a contract to deliver the Australian Submarine Supplier Qualification Program, which identifies, develops and qualifies Australian suppliers for participation in the U.S. submarine industrial base.
HII is also working with Australian industry and academic institutions to develop engineers, maritime specialists, nuclear tradespeople and other workers needed to support Australia’s nuclear-powered submarine operations.
In December 2025, the company received the Australian Submarine Agency’s Nuclear Capability Advisory Services contract to provide nuclear program management and technical support for Australia’s nuclear-powered submarine programs.
