Terral RiverService, Lake Providence, La., announced it has named James Gauthreaux as director of shipyard operations at Vicksburg Shipyard, Vicksburg, Miss.

A Marine Corps veteran, Gauthreaux began his maritime career at Plaquemine Point Shipyard, working his way up to assistant manager. He later joined Cooper Consolidated, where he managed shipyard and fleeting divisions before becoming director of maintenance for stevedoring operations.

Vicksburg Shipyard, a subsidiary of Terral RiverService, earlier this year acquired the assets and land of Big River Shipbuilding in the Port of Vicksburg. It will service most of Terral RiverService’s boats and barges, along with vessels from other maritime companies.

The company is investing $26 million and creating 44 jobs to support the shipyard.

Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive, or MFLEX, program. The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership also is providing assistance for the project.

"We believe Vicksburg Shipyard will not only help Terral RiverService operate more efficiently but will help many of the towing companies and barge lines operating in and around Mississippi and along the Mississippi River," Terral RiverService CEO Tom Gattle said in a statement. "Bringing jobs to the communities we live and operate in has always been a focus of Terral RiverService, and we look to continue that with the growth of Vicksburg Shipyard."
