A March 29 fire on a construction barge in Morehead City, N.C., is under investigation after multiple fire departments responded to the scene along River Drive.
According to local officials, emergency crews were dispatched just before 8:40 p.m. after a nearby resident reported flames coming from a barge working near a dock construction site. Responding agencies included Morehead City Fire-EMS and Atlantic Beach Fire Department, while Beaufort and Newport fire departments were also dispatched but were cleared before arriving on scene.
Firefighters arriving on scene found the fire contained to a Conex storage container located toward the stern of the construction barge. Crews were able to bring the fire under control by approximately 8:52 p.m., preventing the flames from spreading to an excavator and other heavy equipment on deck, as well as the dock structure under construction nearby.

Officials reported no injuries related to the incident.
The construction barge remained on site following the incident as authorities continued investigating the cause of the fire. Officials said the origin of the blaze has not yet been determined.
