The Dutra Group, San Rafael, Calif.,has been awarded the FY26 Norfolk International Terminals North Container Terminal Maintenance and Deepening Project, which calls for dredging approximately 1.5 million cu. yds. of material at the Virginia Port Authority facility.

The project will maintain and deepen container berths and access channels, bringing the berths to the newly authorized depth of 55 feet. The work is intended to accommodate larger ships and improve transportation efficiency in the region.

Dutra’s mechanical dredge Crane Barge Harry S is scheduled to mobilize to Norfolk this fall. Equipped with a Liebherr 8300 crane, the vessel is among the newer assets in the company’s marine fleet. Before its planned move to Norfolk, the dredge completed the final phase of the Mobile Harbor Deepening Project in Alabama.

Dutra has performed port deepening work across the U.S., including projects at the ports of Oakland, Canaveral and Long Beach. Its previous work in the Chesapeake Bay region includes dredging in the Atlantic Ocean Channel, Cape Henry and Thimble Shoals.

The announcement did not disclose the contract value or a completion date.
