Laura DiBella was sworn in on Tuesday as a Commissioner of the Federal Maritime Commission, the federal agency that oversees the nation’s international ocean transportation system.
DiBella will serve a term that expires on June 30, 2028. She was nominated by President Donald Trump on Sept. 3, 2025, confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Dec. 18, 2025, and formally appointed to the Commission on Jan. 2, 2026.
DiBella's career spans both public service and maritime industry leadership. DiBella previously served as Florida’s first female Secretary of Commerce and as president and chief executive officer of Enterprise Florida.
Her maritime credentials include service as executive director of the Florida Harbor Pilots Association and as port director of the Port of Fernandina Ocean Highway and Port Authority.
DiBella holds a Bachelor of Science degree in human resource management and business administration and management from the University of Florida.
