All the major pieces of the American Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 jet and Army UH-60 Black Hawk that collided near Ronald Reagan National Airport Jan. 29 have been recovered from the Potomac River, the National Transportation Safety Board reported Saturday evening.
The wreckage was removed to an unspecified “secure airport facility for further examination and documentation,” according to the agency. “Investigators will be looking for witness marks on the aircraft that could provide clues to the angle of collision.”
Investigators have recovered the jetliner’s Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and retrieved additional avionics from the Black Hawk, NTSB officials said.
A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration TopoBathy lidar survey from a manned NOAA aircraft on Friday morning "identified multiple underwater targets that could be additional aircraft debris," according to the agency. "Divers investigated those targets today and will continue that work this week."
