Armoda, New Iberia, La., has completed custom fiberglass modular living quarters for a dredging barge, delivering a single-lift structure designed to enhance crew comfort and simplify installation in demanding marine environments.
The 36’x32’x12’ structure was installed as one complete module on a 180’x55’ customer-supplied barge. The accommodations include three four-person staterooms with private bathrooms, an office with an adjoining bathroom, a fully equipped galley and dining area, and a laundry room. The layout is designed to support a 12-person crew and additional onboard personnel when needed.
“This is a prime example of Armoda’s expertise in engineering innovative, high-quality modular solutions tailored to our client’s unique needs,” said Tim Murphy, company vice president.
An Armoda press release noted that unlike multi-unit modular systems that require onsite assembly, the company’s single-lift approach minimizes connection points and installation time. The living quarters are fully integrated with the barge’s water, sewer, and electrical systems. Armoda highlighted the fiberglass construction provides a lighter, corrosion-resistant alternative to steel, reducing maintenance needs and improving long-term durability.
Additional design features include aluminum exterior doors for direct access to each room, enhanced insulation and soundproofing for privacy, and split HVAC systems with individual thermostats. The commercial-grade galley equipment allows meal preparation for both crew and visiting personnel.
