Panama City, Fla.-based Eastern Shipbuilding Group has signed a contract with Harvey Gulf International Marine to build a new 212'7"×59'1"×25'7" Rampage 6400 multipurpose field support vessel (MPFSV). The Harvey Stone will be the 14th offshore service vessel Eastern has built for New Orleans-based Harvey Gulf over the past 13 years.
Robert Allan Ltd., Vancouver, British Columbia, will provide the detailed MPFSV hybrid design and engineering. The company said the design would give the new OSV better diesel fuel efficiencies than typical vessels of the same class under various offshore operating conditions.
On deck, the new vessel will carry a hydraulic anchor windless/towing winch forward and a hydraulic anchor handling/towing winch aft.
Main propulsion will come from two GE Marine 12V250MDC IMO II, Tier 4i diesel engines rated at 4,694 hp each. The mains will connect to twin Schottel SRP 3030 controllable-pitch propellers in nozzles through Twin Disc HLPS-95 marine gears. The hybrid propulsion system also includes two 1,000-kW induction shaft motor/generators.
“The vessel will be equipped with a hybrid electro/mechanical propulsion and powering system consisting of two motor/generators, two diesel gensets and two diesel main engines,” said Michael Carroll, senior vice president and chief naval architect for Harvey Gulf’s Houston office. “Each motor/generator is connected to its respective shaft line through a clutched gearbox. The motor/generators operate at variable speed and connect to the propulsion bus through variable frequency drives. Direct mechanical propulsion power is provided by the main engines, and electrical power is provided by the shaft motor/generators. This arrangement enables maximum flexibility and highly efficient operation in all propulsion modes, resulting in significant fuel and emissions savings.”
The new OSV will be also be equipped with two Schottel STT 2FP bowthrusters, powered by 600-kW electric motors.
Ship’s service power will be provided by twin 350-kW Cummins QSK19DM Tier 3 gensets. The 120-kW emergency generator is powered by a Cummins CMSL QSB-DM.
The Harvey Stone will be USCG certified, ABS classed Maltese Cross A1, AMS, Circle E, ACCU, ACP, UWILD, FFV-2, DP-2, Offshore Support Vessel, Notation (DSV Capable, ROV Capable), AH, TOW, SUPPLY, HAB+(WB), ENVIRO, IMO/SOLAS/MARPOL.
The OSV is scheduled for delivery in April 2016.
